horror at its finest

I am going to give you another interesting example of horror to give you more insight into the different aspects of horror. The movie I did research on was Annabelle directed by John R. Leonetti (2014).

Camera Angles/Shots/Movements- Establishing shots, tracking, shots, extreme close-up shots, and medium long shots are frequently used in this film. These shots are meant to help the audience interpret what will happen, allow the audience to feel involved, and give the audience a sense of intensity.

Sound- Sound Motif and Incidental Music is used in the movie Annabelle. The purpose of this is to give the film a sad and dark mood. There are also non-diegetic soundtrack in this film to feed to the dark mood of this film.

Editing-  Jump cuts are used often in this film, because the purpose is to create tension and to build up the scenes to important upcoming events.

Costumes- The characters are dressed in normal clothing. This is to make it seem like the characters are normal people who live in a normal neighborhood, but that changes once Annabelle enters their lives.

Lighting- Low key lighting is used a lot towards the middle of film, because that is when Annabelle begins her dark deeds.

Actors- In the beginning, the actors were people with normal lives, until receive a doll, Annabelle. The doll starts to haunt them and ruins their lives in way they would not imagine.

Makeup-  The characters wear natural and bright makeup.

Props- The props are the furniture inside the house and the main character of the movie, the doll, Annabelle.

Setting- In the beginning the setting is a bright and friendly neighborhood, but then it gets very dark and eerie in the household of the people that are being haunted.

Elements I like- I like the mystery of the doll and how the lives of the people changed when they least expected it too.

Elements I do not like- Nothing! I love everything!

The project reveal

In this blog I am going to reveal the final result of our movie. We have officially decided that the genre of our movie is going to be a horror film. The storyline of our movie is that there is girl who is not very nice and has a poor father and lives with her wealthy mother just for money. She continues to do bad deeds until suddenly she gets cursed and than kidnapped. The big question will be, who did it? The movie will be filled with a lot of suspense, scariness, and mystery. disecting The Call

Hi blog, today we are going to be talking about this fascinating movie that I watched recently. The movie is called "The Call" directed by Brad Anderson. It was released in 2013. The genre is thriller. I decided to watch this movie because the genre of our movie is thriller aswell.    C.L.A.M.P.S Costumes:  In most thriller movies the clothes tend to be quite on the normal side. On other occastions  if their is violence and blood invloved ina movie their may be stained cloths on the actors. This movie was about a kidnapping, therefore the kidnapper was usually wearing sunglasses or a hat, to hide his true identity. Another costume in this movie was police officer uniforms. The victim of the kidnapping was wearing regular, causal clothing. Lighting:  The lighting in this movie was different in each scene. For example one scene the car the kidnapper was driving fast to try to get away from the police and the light was bright because it was outisde on the road in broad daylight. In another scene the victim is being held in a basement and lighting is very very low. Actors:  Most of the movie is actors being very dramatic and trying to build the suspense until the end of the movie. Many of the scenes you don't know whats gonna happen in the end. This is good for these movies because it leaves viewers wanting more. This is what makes them stay until the end of the movie. Makeup: In this movie there isn't any need for drastic amounts of makeup needed so therefore therefore its very natural. From time to time special effect makeup is needed for gory, bloody scenes. Makeup artists come in when there filming to make it look as real as possible. For example the victim in the movie got punched in the face and they had to make it appear as if she had a black eye.  Props: There were many props in this movie. In the 911 dispactcher scenes they use objects like headsets to show that their communcating with caller. Another props can be weapons. Such as knives or guns. Setting:  The setting is the moving is a lot of different places including basements,police stations, car trunks, parking lots, on the road, cars, and many many more. There are so many settings because the kidnapper is always changing locations to not get caught and/or seen. C.A.M.S Camera angles: Low angle, eye level, and high angle. Movements and shots: Pan shot, trunk shot, close up, extreme close up, two shot, and aerial shot. Common Sound and Editing: Non digetic sound, digetic sound, dialouge, sound bridge, and sound track. Elements I like and Don't Like: The elements I like are the jump scares and the unexpected twists in thriller movies The elements I don't like is when the ending is predictable, in this movie the ending was kinda predictable.

genre research countdown horror. and thriller

               As a way to narrow down the genre, we will be researching yet another genre.
Today we will be researching the genre horror. We will be going over the C.L.A.M.P.S, C.A.M.S, editing, sounds, examples, and elements of the genre that I like and dislike.

C.L.A.M.P.S
Costumes- In many horror films, they wear regular clothing like jeans and t-shirts. Most of the time murders have blood all over there clothing. In the case where there are monsters, they are usually in ripped up clothing that has holes and missing pieces. In most horror movies the killer has a mask on and gloves to hide their identity.

Lighting- One type of lighting in horror movies is uplighting. This is when the light is facing up in someone's direction to show their face or a certain feature. Another type is spotlighting it is used to put light on something or someone in a dark room. This is mostly used to revel a new finding to a horror movie like a dead body or a missing person.\

Acting- Most of the acting has to do with being scared. Trying to make the movie more dramatic and pull the audience into the scenes. They put fear into the eyes of the people watching to keep them on the edge of their seats. They are usually running and screaming. Or in some cases hiding and whispering.

Makeup- They have gory makeup. This can be in bruises with a variety of shades of black purple and blue. Or cuts that are deep and bloody. They have special effects makeup artists come in to make the wounds and make them look real. They use eyeshadows and lipsticks to blend and deepen the look.

Props- Depending on the type of horror movie they can use a lot of different props to scare you. In murder movies, they can use fake knives and or guns. And in kidnapping movies, they can use fake chains to tie them up and assortments of fake weapons. They can use fake bodies made from silicon and plastic to fool you into thinking its a dead body.

Scenery- It often ends up on a dark foggy night where the moon is full and the spooky feeling too it. It could be in a haunted place like a house or an abandoned building. Or it could be like a graveyard or in the dark forest far from home.

Editing-  eye-line match, fadeout, reaction shot.

Sound- sound bridge, diegetic sound,toedent sound, score, dialog, non-diegetic sound.

Examples-  It, Nightmare on elm street, The conjuring, The exorcist,  A quiet place.

Elements of horror- jump scares, monsters, murder, ghosts, kidnapping, emotional response.

Elements I like- Jump scares and the emotional attachment you get to the character as their person build up a story in the film.

Elements I don't like-  I don't like it When there are kidnappings in scary movies because I know it happens a lot and it always ends up keeping me up at night.

Thriller

Camera Angles- Common camera angles in thriller are low angles, high angles, and dutch/canted angles. These are commonly used to emphasize vulnerability or power, which are some ingredients in suspense.

Camera Shots/Movements- Common camera shots and movements are hand held shots, pan shots, and close-up shots. These techniques are sued to build the drama within a thriller.

Editing Techniques- Common editing techniques that are used are cross cutting and flashbacks. These are some of the building blocks for suspense.

Examples- A few thriller films that use these methods are Get Out (2017), As Above, So Below (2014), It (2017) and Dunkirk (2017).

Sounds- Common sounds in thriller movies are incidental music, sound motif, sound bridge, and diegetic sound. These sounds are frequently used to build climax and tension. For example, eerie footsteps indicate something is coming. 

Costumes- The characters are usually seen in normal clothing to create realism in the movie. The bad guys are commonly seen in dark colors.

Lighting- Common lighting used in thrillers is low key lighting, this is used often because it sets the mood of a thriller film.

Actors- In thriller films, there is always the good guy and the bad guy. The bad character always commits crimes and unruly actions and the good character is coming up with ways to commit deeds and stop the bad guy.

Makeup- The bad characters usually wear bold eyeliner and dark colors to show off their evilness. The good characters usually wear light makeup.

Props- Props that are commonly used in thrillers are any type of weaponry and it is usually shown when there is confrontation between the bad guy and the good guy.

Setting- Thrillers are commonly shot in urban areas, for example, the city. They are shot in isolated places, for example, am abandoned house or a dark alley.

Elements I like- I love the feeling of suspense and tension. I love the feeling of curiosity and the strong desire to know what is going to happen next.

Elements I do not like- I do not like so many killings in one movie, it makes me really uncomfortable.

Genre Research Powerpoint

our first project in aice media was to do research on a genre topic picked at random. We got western as our genre topic and honestly, it was something I didn't know much about.  Western has never really been the type of movies I liked to watch. After the research, I learned a lot more about the genre and started to find appreciation for it. They put a lot of work into shooting the action shots in the film and getting the perfect angle of the shoot-offs. Things that are often seen are guns horses and cowboys. They have a lot of scenes where it shows the cowboy riding off into the sunset or just riding off in general. They add extra sounds like horse clacking and gunshots and even background music.

starting the final task

            Hello and welcome to the start of the final task. I'm Stephanie I am an honors student in the ninth grade. I really have grown in the past year in learning about what I love and what I care about. I am caring more about me and less about what other people think. I have done really good in the last quarter when it comes to getting better grades on tests. I try my hardest to make sure everything I do come out well made. I am very excited to start this new project and get to getting our idea approved. I am working with the amazing lily and aniyah. Through this year they have proven to be amazing to work with and we just flow perfectly together. I am so happy I get to work with them once again. Now let's begin this process before I explode with excitement.

      Through my filming journey, I have obtained and grown many skills. For example, my filming skills have gotten a lot better. Like determining and good angle from a bad angle. Or being able to watch a clip and know if it needs to be reshot or if it could be used. Also, I have found that i am better at editing then I thought I was. I actually enjoy putting together the videos and watching they result in the end. I have also begun to start thinking in a director's mind. I often find myself when we are filling that I am thinking about shots or scenes that will make our video interesting and different from the other so it draws attention from other people. Now filming and making videos makes me happy and I still learn new things every time I take the camera out and shoot. I even took up filming things like flowers and the beach and sunsets kinda like a side hobby outside of school.
   Our first pitch idea is by me. My pitch is thriller/horror. The story's main characters are the daughter, the poor father, and the rich mother. A poor girl is raised by her poor abusive father but her wealthy mother comes back wanting to be a part of her life. Shortly after the girl is kidnapped, no one knows by who. So the real question is, who did it? This was the first idea that popped to my mind when we were introduced this project. The next pitch is by Anyiah. The genre of is thriller.This pitch is a little hard to explain but basically its about the cycle of karma. A mean person who lives in a nice neighborhood... one day a witch comes along and puts a curse on the person, after that day tragic things keep happening. lilys pitch is probably the least creative out of the three but I still think its pretty decent. Fame comes at a price. A young rapper has the dream of fame and richs. He makes a deal with the devil to get all his wildest dreams but at a price, he dies at the young age of 20.

ditch the one pitch

  Hey world, it's Stephanie! In the last blog, I announced the three pitch ideas my group and I were considering for our project. Recently, we narrowed it down to two ideas. We eliminated the pitch about a woman deceiving her close ones and than she ends up dying, but no one knows who did it. We got rid of that  pitch because we want this project to be really creative and that idea did not fit our standards. We agreed it was still a really good idea, but we have something better in mind. My group and I chose the first two pitches. The first pitch was about a rebellious daughter, who is not very nice to people and lives with her dad, but her wealthy mom decides to come back into her life and the girl decides to live with her mom and suddenly the girl disappears. The second pitch was about a mean person, who lives in a nice neighborhood and treats no one nicely. One day a ghost comes along and puts a curse on that person and something tragic happens to that person. aniyah and I came up with a really good idea to combine the pitches and unite them into one.

     We decided this would be a good idea because they both have something to do with a person who is not very nice and then ends up having something bad happen to them. We want theme of this movie to be about karma. The moral of the story will be what goes around, will always come back around. We also thought it would be interesting to make a scary movie about karma because most people think karma can be a scary thing. There is only one problem: the ghost in the second pitch. We wouldn't be able to have access to a green screen to make one of us look like a ghost. To add on, it would be tacky to have a white sheet over someone to make them seem like a ghost. So we had to get rid of the ghost idea. But we came up with many other ideas to replace the ghost! The two ideas we thought of was witch putting a curse on the girl or the girl kills someone and the relative of the victim comes back to haunt her.

    Later on, we came up with a new and improved pitch. We did this by making a few tweaks to the two previous ideas and combining them together to make something great. We are going to make the movie about a young lady who has a bad reputation. She grew up with only her father, but then her rich mother comes back into her life and she left her father to live with her mother. The father felt betrayed and waits for the perfect time to seek revenge. As her life goes on, she makes bad choices that lead her into killing someone in front of their relative. The relative will not stop until the murderer has paid her price. Suddenly, she dies. Who did it? Thanks for reading my blog. I can not wait until you read what happens next! Blog you later!
