Audience and Institution Practice Essay.

Question: How does funding impact media products?

For my essay I will be discussing the impact of funding on media products.                                     Many popular movies made recently consist of huge budgets and big-time movie actors. Most of the time millions of dollars go into making the movies. But the spending isn’t just for the production or the actors it is also for promoting the movie. Whether a movie does good or not all depends on the budget provided by the companies.

I would like to start this paragraph of- by analyzing the movie fast and furious 7. It was made by Universal Pictures in 2014.This movie was given a budget of 190 million USD .They made merchandise such as T shirts, water bottles, hats and posters. The main characters in the movies were also put on vibe magazine. Which not only promoting the movie but also promoted the actors. There was even a video game made for the movie. Paul Walker had died in the making of the movie so they had to use expensive CGI effects so they could finish the movie with out him. Without the budget that they had they might have not been able to finish the movie because of the fact that Paul Walker had died .But because they had such a large budget and could spend money on expensive CGI effects they were able to continue the process of making the movie without the late Paul Walker . The movie ended up having a gross revenue of 1.5 billion US dollars.

For my second example I would like to bring up the movie Spiderman homecoming. This movie was distributed by Sony Pictures and produced by Columbia pictures and Marvel Studios. The budget for Spiderman homecoming was 175 million US dollars. The movie had cross productions such as selling toys At Target and even coming out with the soundtrack. They put the movies on kids cereal boxes like cinnamon toast crunch and also had posters and merchandise distributed .Because humans can't actually fly a lot of money went in to making the effects of Spiderman jumping from building to building. Without the money this film would not be as realistic as it was and not as highly anticipated from promotion while bringing 808 million dollars in gross revenue.

My third example will be Jurassic World. This movie was distributed by Universal Studios In 2015. The budget for this movie was 150 million US dollars. They use this money to make the dinosaurs realistic and create a better movie. They distributed promotion for the movie through posters video games and toys like legos. They even had snacks promoting the movie like Mike and ikes and their very own Blizzard flavor at Dairy Queen. Because of the budget they received they were able to win an awards in 2015 for visual effects of the year. Jurassic World became the third largest grossing movie of all time with making 1.6 these Seven billion US dollars in the box office .

My final example will be beauty and the beast produced by Walt Disney pictures on March 17th 2017. They were given a budget of 20,000,000 US dollars for the first beauty and the beast movie ever made. The 2017 beauty and the beast movie was given a budget of 254 million dollars making it the most expensive musical to ever be produced . They promoted this movie by making posters, dolls , costumes, ornaments , T shirts , stickers , jewelry. this movie ended up bringing 1.26 billion dollars back into the pockets of the producers .

In conclusion funding of a movie can be the determining factor of how well the movie does. When there is a lot of money put into a movie for the actors, actresses, CGI effects, and voice actors the movies tend to do better in the market. The Film industry is tough and without the right budget a movie can really flop. In the end movies that have more money do better and movie that have a smaller budget do worse. Lastly, this is why funding has such a big impact on media products.
