title research splice

In this blog we are going to get more insight into the world of title sequences, from another movie. I am going to continue using these two sites to get my research: www.artofthetitle.com and www.watchthetitles.com. The movie I chose to do research on in this blog is Splice. This movie relates to my movie because they fit under the same genre which is thriller. This film is about a young scientific couple who try to complete groundbreaking genetic engineering experiments. They attempt to introduce human DNA into their work of splicing animal genes.

1. How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?

There are some images that are related to what the inside of the human body look s like. The words look like veins.

2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequences?

Images of veins and blood cells because that is what the movie consists of.

3.What connotations do the images carry?

It gives you a suspensful and eerie and feeling.

4. How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?

5. How does the film establish an enigma from the outset?

The images of the veins and blood cells make you want to know more about the movie.

They made it seem like the audience was taking a tour into the world inside the human body. This is to really grasp the audience attention.

7.  How has technology been used effectively?

They used low lighting for an eerie feeling. They used incidental music to build suspense and there were fade ins and fade outs to create mystery.

title research The reaping

Hi blog! Today we are going to be researching and reviewing the title scene of The Reaping on watchthetitles.com. The genres of this movie are horror and thriller, the same as our movie. There are 7 questions that are going to be answered and explained in this blog.

The Questions

Q1: The first question is How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?

A:There are 27 titles that are displayed during the opening sequence of the film. These titles include the names of the actors, directors, screenplay, producers, executive producers, etc.

Q2: The second question is What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?

A:The images that were prioritized in this film were as simple as leaves, stone walls, microscopic images, eyes(specifically eyelashes),  bursts of ink, and I cannot make out what some of the images are because they are so zoomed in.

Q3: The third question is What connotations do the images carry?

A: The connotations that these pictures carry are suspense. How much they zoom in the pictures show how they don't want you want you to know what those items or things are. The simple items like the leaves, bricks, or stone walls may represent something bigger then itself. These pictures urge the viewer to continue watching the movie.

Q4: How is the genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?

A:  The genre is reinforced through symbolic codes is the images. They represent something bigger than itself.

Q5: How does the film establish an enigma from the outset?

A: The film establishes an enigma because it builds up suspense by not knowing what the images that are very zoomed in are. For the images you can see, you don't know how they would be significant in the movie. The music also plays a big part in building up the enigma(the mystery.) For example if there was happy, upbeat music you would think that the movie is positive and possibly a comedy. In this specific movie opening there was mysterious and eerie music. This music was setting the tone for the whole movie.

Q6: What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?

A: The strategies that are being used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience are the film needed to show how their movie is going to be different from others. Another strategy used was they showed what company was producing this movie. In this case it was Warner Bros. Warner Bros company is very well known and liked. Some big movies they produced were, The Exorcist, The Dark Knight, Aquaman, and many more popular films.

Q7: How has technology been used effectively?

A: While answering this question I considered all of the following, camera angles, transitions, and editing. For editing they have to merge together all the images and videos. They also have to edit in all the titles as well as the music.

Title research; Two Eyes staring

I have discovered a new movie that fits in the same genre as the movie I am going to create soon. This movie is really going to help my group and I grasp the audience's attention, not only by film, but also by the creativity of the titles. I got my research from a website called www.watchthetitles.com and www.artofthetitles.com. These websites helped me realize the importance of the title sequences in a film. A few thins I learned from these sites are that you have to make the titles visible. If not, than the readers will begin viewing the movie with confusion. Another thing I learned is that the structure and the visuals of the title sequences must relate to the film, to give the audience a little insight into what mood the movie will give them. Especially, if the film is horror, the beginning must give the audience an eerie feeling. This is also imperative because we want to grasp the audience's attention as soon as the movie starts.

The movie I did research on is called "Two Eyes Staring". The movie is about  girl who moves into parent's mansion with her family, but as time passes a woman discovers a dark and scary secret. Here are some need-to-know questions about the title sequences of this movie:

1. How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?

The font of the titles are dark shady, so this helps me infer that the movie that there is some mystery in this film.

2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequences?

There are images of a girl playing around and doing normal everyday things, but it also loos like there are some unexpected things that are going on behind close doors that she may not know about.

3. What connotations do the images carry?

These are visuals of some scandalous actions going on behind the titles, so that helps me infer that this movie includes with some skeletons in their closet that  will most likely come out near the end of the movie.

4. How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?

The visuals and the editing techniques are what reinforces genre. The way the movie presents itself from the very beginning to the very end screams horror. Even in the first two minutes the movies automatically gives you clues to let you know the movie is going to be horrific and scary.

5. How does the film establish an enigma from the outset?

It has scary images in the background that already have you at the edge of your seat with a strong desire to know what is going to happen next. This is one of the main purposes of horror films.

6. What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?

The low lighting in the beginning of the movie sets an uncanny mood for the audience to get a hint of what they may feel during the movie. They used slow tempo music in the beginning of the film to add to the mystery of the movie.

7.  How has technology been used effectively?

In the images that they were portraying, they made it seem like the images were a part of pages that were being burned or wilting away. Tracking shots were used in different aspects of the sequences. Editing techniques such as fade in and fade out were used.

That is all the information I have for today's blog! Thanks for reading and blog you later!

Title research venom

Hi blog. Today we are going to be researching and reviewing the title scene of Venom on artofthetitle.com. The genres of this movie are horror and thriller, the same as our movie. The other genres of this movie are superhero and science fiction. There are 7 questions that are going to be answered and explained in this blog

Q1: The first question is How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?

A: There are 24 titles that are displayed during the opening sequence of the film. These titles include the names of the actors, directors, screenplay, producers, executive producers, etc.

Q2: The second question is what images are prioritized in the opening sequence?

A:The images that were prioritized in this film were ink blots. The ink blots either turned into something or appeared as something from the beginning. Some images were scratching claws, beetles, the actual main character(venom),fossils, skulls, bridges, and random creatures.

Q3: The third question is what connotations do the images carry?

A: The connotations that these pictures carry are showing you things that are gonna play a big part in the movie. For example the main character is obviously going to venom so they are going to show a sneak peak of that character. Another example is the bridge. This could possibly be hinting to where a significant scene is going to occur.

Q4: How is the genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?

A: The genre is reinforced through symbolic and technical codes because like Ive said in the past questions the images/objects represent more then they show.

Q5: How does the film establish an enigma from the outset?

A: The film establishes an enigma because like I said in question 3 the images represent something, their there for a reason. Without the images the opening film would just be boring and bland. But some of the reasons for the images are unknown. That's what adds mystery to the film.

Q6: What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?

A: The strategies that are being used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience are the film needed to show how their movie is going to be different from others. This movie is different then others because the main character of the movie is a villain. Another strategy used was that they showed how the movie was based on a original Marvel Comic. This will bring in a lot more viewers because it will pull in comic lovers and movie lovers. Another strategy used is they used a villain from another movie. Spider-man 3 is when Venom is first introduced.

Q7: How has technology been used effectively?

A: While answering this question I considered all of the following, camera angles, transitions, and editing. For editing they have to merge together all the images and videos. They also have to edit in all the titles as well as the music.

watch the titles

This is a website called www.watchthetitles.com. This website came in handy because the other website didn't have all the movies I wanted to see. I watched the titles of the hostage, manhunt, and twister. They are not all exactly the horror category but they do fall under a thriller. Throughout these, I learned many titles that come up during the first two minutes of a film. At the beginning of films, they put who is presenting the film aka the company. Then they have the title come up in some cool way that goes along with the film genre. After that, they show the most important actresses of actors starring in the film. Basically from there, it goes down from everybody who did a job to make the film possible. IN the ones I've seen the casting usually comes right after all the people who star in the movie. After that, the person who produced the music comes into place. At this point, a variation of titles can come out. This can be the editor, art director, visual effects, costume designer, production designer, and finally at the end will always be directed by. This is why this website was crucial to my research about tiles.

disection of the quiet place

The movie that I decided to watch and dissect was the The Quiet Place.
This genre of this movie is horror/thriller. This movie is about a family who must live their lives in silence after a mysterious creature that hunt by sound threaten their survival.
C.L.A.M.P.S

Costume- The costumes that the actors wear in this movie is raggidy and dirty looking clothing. Which makes sense because their living off of what they have and what the mother can sew. In most of the movie they are wearing hats and jackets aswell. Also because they cannot make sound they don't wear shoes.

Lighting- The lighting in this movie is mostly natural lighting. In most areas in the city the power is out therefore no artifical lighting. In the families house their are many candles providing light.

Acting- The acting in this moving is incredible. There is very little sound in this movie so the actors have to make dramtic facial expressions in order to get the emotions correctly.

Makeup- The makeup in this is little to none. The only "makeup" in this movie would be the effect of looking dirty. This would be called special effects not makeup.

Props- The props that were included in this movie were buckets, garden hoes, gardening tools, steros,  kids toys, medicine, endless cans of foods, and many more.

Setting: The setting in this movie is somewhere in the country but not to far away from the city. The characters are seen many times traveling to the city for supplies. The main setting in this movie is the familys farm/house. This is where the family is safe and protected.
C.A.M.S

Camera Angles and Shots- high angle, over the shoulder, establishing shot, long shot, two person shot, and mid shot.

Movements- tracking shot, pan, pov, and eye level.

Sound-
sound bridge, diegetic sound, toedent sound, score, dialog, non-diegetic sound.

Elements I like and elements I didn't like- I liked the acting in this movie. It takes very skilled actors in order to show such emotion without speaking. I enjoyed watching it because the ending of the movie was unknown throughtout the whole film. There weren't any elements I didn't like about the film except maybe it was a little too quiet at times.Image result for quiet place

inside man:Most wanted disections

The movie that I decided to watch and dissect was the inside man: most wanted.
It is an action movie having to do with a criminal mastermind family that went to steal Nazi gold back from a U.S bank
C.L.A.M.P.S

Costume- Most of the people were the police or FBI So they were wearing uniforms and kevlar. The people who weren't the police were forced by the criminals to wear burgundy jumpsuits so the police couldn't tell who was who.

Lighting- They start off with a studio effect sunlighting. Then as it gets darker they have the people use flashlights and have street lights to brighten the screen while its dark.

Acting- The bad guys had to act as if they were German and had thick accents. The other people acted terrified of dying and did very good at it. There was one character who had to act like she was on the outside as a victim but she was actually part of the robbery. The cops were realistic but could have been better at acting like they were scared.

Makeup- The girl that was acting as if she was a victim had to put makeup on her face and body to make it seem like she was abused. So they used lipstick and eyeshadows to blend into her skin to make it look like bruises. The people who were hit or shot had blood on their wounds and on their clothes.

Props- They had cars, helicopters, trucks, guns, fake gold, drills, phones, and fake money.

Scenery-  Late afternoon to midnight. Everything moving fast and peoples lives at risk.

C.A.M.S

Camera Angles- high angle, over the shoulder,

Movements- tracking shot, pan,
Pov,  establishing shot, eye level ,

Sound-

sound bridge, diegetic sound, toedent sound, score, dialog, non-diegetic sound.

Elements i like and elemnets i didn't like- I liked the stoyr line of the movies. It was very action packed and it wasnt a movie i could just tell what the ending was gonna be. I enjoyed watching it because it kept me on the edge of my seat. There wasnt any elements i didnt like about the film.

horror at its finest

I am going to give you another interesting example of horror to give you more insight into the different aspects of horror. The movie I did research on was Annabelle directed by John R. Leonetti (2014).

Camera Angles/Shots/Movements- Establishing shots, tracking, shots, extreme close-up shots, and medium long shots are frequently used in this film. These shots are meant to help the audience interpret what will happen, allow the audience to feel involved, and give the audience a sense of intensity.

Sound- Sound Motif and Incidental Music is used in the movie Annabelle. The purpose of this is to give the film a sad and dark mood. There are also non-diegetic soundtrack in this film to feed to the dark mood of this film.

Editing-  Jump cuts are used often in this film, because the purpose is to create tension and to build up the scenes to important upcoming events.

Costumes- The characters are dressed in normal clothing. This is to make it seem like the characters are normal people who live in a normal neighborhood, but that changes once Annabelle enters their lives.

Lighting- Low key lighting is used a lot towards the middle of film, because that is when Annabelle begins her dark deeds.

Actors- In the beginning, the actors were people with normal lives, until receive a doll, Annabelle. The doll starts to haunt them and ruins their lives in way they would not imagine.

Makeup-  The characters wear natural and bright makeup.

Props- The props are the furniture inside the house and the main character of the movie, the doll, Annabelle.

Setting- In the beginning the setting is a bright and friendly neighborhood, but then it gets very dark and eerie in the household of the people that are being haunted.

Elements I like- I like the mystery of the doll and how the lives of the people changed when they least expected it too.

Elements I do not like- Nothing! I love everything!

The project reveal

In this blog I am going to reveal the final result of our movie. We have officially decided that the genre of our movie is going to be a horror film. The storyline of our movie is that there is girl who is not very nice and has a poor father and lives with her wealthy mother just for money. She continues to do bad deeds until suddenly she gets cursed and than kidnapped. The big question will be, who did it? The movie will be filled with a lot of suspense, scariness, and mystery. Thanks for reading my blog! Blog you later!
